RV Under Bed Storage Ideas for a Small Travel Trailer
A travel trailer's bed compartment can hold the spare bedding without becoming a pile to dig through. Low ivory boxes make a single layer easier to see, while smaller organizers separate clothes and other supplies. Work with the existing opening and mechanism, leaving the things you use most comfortable to lift out.

Low Fabric Storage Boxes
Firm ivory sides, clear zippered lids and front handles keep spare bedding visible. The listed outer size is 33 × 17 × 6 inches; check the access opening too.

Compression Packing Cubes
Mesh-top cubes separate outfits, socks and layers inside a larger box. Close the main zipper before using the compression zipper, without forcing the fabric.

Vacuum Storage Bags
Mixed-size vacuum bags reduce the bulk of suitable spare bedding. Follow the fabric care instructions and leave room for a bag that expands again.

Small Latching Boxes
Clear rigid boxes keep smaller dry items together. These 15-quart boxes are listed at 17 × 11 × 6.5 inches, so allow more height than the fabric boxes.

Soft Compartment Organizers
Low fabric dividers separate socks and small clothing inside a storage box. Check the chosen insert against the box’s usable interior, not its outside size.

Zippered Shoe Bags
Separate clean, dry shoes from bedding with individual nylon bags. Choose the bag size around your actual footwear, especially bulky hiking shoes.

Foldaway Laundry Bag
A foldable drawstring bag keeps dry laundry separate from clean clothes and is easy to carry out. Keep damp garments out of the closed bedding compartment.

Nonadhesive Grip Liner
Trim a flat piece beneath storage boxes to cushion the base. Test it on the compartment finish and keep vents and service openings clear.

Removable Bin Labels
Write a contents list on the rigid boxes so you can identify them without unpacking. Use the fabric boxes’ included label holders for their own cards.

Rechargeable Storage Lights
A slim rechargeable light helps you see the back of a dark compartment. Position it away from the bed mechanism and follow its mounting instructions.

Compact Humidity Monitor
A small display lets you check temperature and humidity near stored fabrics. It measures conditions; it does not remove moisture from the compartment.

Handheld Crevice Vacuum
Use the pull-out crevice tool to clean an empty storage bay before packing it. Store the vacuum and its charger in a separate suitable space.

Measure the Opening and the Space Inside
Start with the storage your trailer already has. Some beds lift as a platform; others have drawers or a side hatch. Open the compartment as the trailer’s instructions describe, then measure its clear width, depth and height. Check the narrowest access opening separately: a box can fit inside a bay and still be awkward to get through its hatch.
The ivory boxes in this arrangement are listed at 33 inches long, 17 inches wide and 6 inches high. Mark that footprint with paper or painter’s tape before choosing a pair. Leave room for your hands, the handles and the lid. Keep the route to any existing service panel or vent available instead of treating the whole bed base as storage.
Make One Accessible Layer
Place a bedding box and a clothing box beside each other where they can be lifted out individually. A clear top lets you see which one you need, while a front label helps when the compartment is dim. Keep the contents below the zipper line so the lid closes without pulling against a blanket.
One accessible layer is usually more useful here than a tightly stacked pile. If you prefer rigid boxes for small items, compare their full height, including the lid and latches, with the available clearance. The selected latching boxes are taller than the fabric boxes; they are an alternative for a suitable part of the bay, not an insert for the shallow boxes.
Give Bedding, Clothes and Shoes Different Homes
Keep everyday clothing in packing cubes that you can carry into the living area. Soft compartment inserts can separate socks and smaller pieces inside a larger box. Choose only the insert shapes that fit its usable interior, and avoid packing them so tightly that you have to empty the box to remove one item.
Reserve vacuum bags for spare textiles whose care instructions permit compression. Let bedding dry fully before packing, close each seal carefully and check it again before the trip. Leave some spare clearance rather than designing a layout that works only while every bag stays completely compressed.
Clean, dry shoes belong in their own bags, away from sheets and blankets. A separate foldaway laundry bag makes the return trip easier, but damp clothing needs to be removed and dried rather than left in a closed storage bay.
Keep the Compartment Easy to Use
Clean the empty base before loading it. A handheld crevice tool reaches the corners, and a flat, trimmed liner can cushion boxes on a suitable surface. Try the liner on the finish first; friction helps during ordinary use but does not replace the trailer’s required travel restraints.
If the bay is dark, a removable rechargeable light can make the far end easier to inspect. Keep it out of the path of hinges and supports, and use the maker’s mounting guidance. A compact humidity monitor can help you notice changing conditions around stored fabrics, without adding a pile of gadgets to the space.
Finish by checking that the platform closes normally with the mattress and bedding in place. Follow the trailer’s instructions for supporting and lowering the bed, securing loose items and staying within its storage and cargo limits. Keep this arrangement focused on light personal belongings, with access to installed equipment left clear.
RV Under Bed Storage Questions
Are fabric bags or plastic boxes better under an RV bed?
Fabric boxes work well for soft bedding and can fold flat when empty. Rigid boxes give smaller items a defined shape but need clearance for their lids and latches. Choose around the actual opening and the items you need to reach.
Can vacuum bags replace under-bed boxes?
They can reduce the bulk of suitable spare textiles, but a handled box may still be easier to carry and organize. Allow room for a bag to regain some volume, and follow the textile’s care instructions.
Can I add this arrangement to any travel trailer?
Begin with an existing storage compartment intended for this use. A drawer, lift-up platform and exterior hatch each need a different layout. Check the trailer’s storage instructions, access points and installed equipment before selecting organizers.
Plan Around Your Trailer’s Storage
A useful under-bed layout keeps spare belongings together and leaves them easy to retrieve. Choose the containers after measuring the bay, then use the same positions each trip so you can quickly see what has been packed.
